Introduction

Australia is becoming an increasing popular destination for backpackers and travellers. One thing that these tourists would likely want to be able to do is drive, however, since they are not an Australian citizen; the issue of having their vehicle insured can be a tricky problem. If this is your case, it is likely you have heard about the company, Travellers Car Insurance.

Written on their website is the message that they are the ideal insurer for people that want to have a worry free holiday. The thing that got me jumping is the fact that up to $10,000,000 can be covered for third party property. This in my experience is more than enough for you to get a peace of mind while on the road.

Coverage and Plans

One thing to keep in mind though is that there are several things that are not covered. They include damages done to your own car, theft, and bodily injury. Basically how I see it, Travellers Car Insurance only offers third party insurance.

Onto the prices, they seem pretty much affordable in my eyes. Knowing that backpackers and tourists would already be spending tons of money on their accommodation and tickets, it is important that the price for insurance is something that is reasonable. For a period of three months, the price for a policy is $280, and for a period of 10-12 months, the price is $450. As you can see, the more months you take out the cheaper the price will be, and it is pretty obvious that it can turn out to be very cheap if you do some math.

Travellers Car Insurance is apparently partnered with Travellers Autobarn. This means that if you are an existing customer, you will be able to receive discounts on your car insurance. Travellers Autobarn is a company that lets you buy, sell, rent and hire cars, stationwagons and campervans, something that may be attractive for backpackers to check out.

Now a bit about their excess. The one thing that this company seem to put a lot of emphasize on is that the amount of excess you pay differs from age and driving experience. This is actually uncommon in other insurers. Looking at their comparison table, I saw that the cheapest excess is $300 and the dearest is $1,000.
