ANZ is among the top 4 banks in Australia, the largest banking group in New Zealand and Pacific, and among the top 50 banks in the world. It first opened as the Bank of Australasia in Sydney in 1835 and in Melbourne from 1838.

For reviews of other insurance companies similar to this one, you should also check out Medibank Insurance Reviews, NIB Insurance Reviews and Bupa Insurance Reviews.

Naturally, they've expanded since 1835 and now offer a number of insurance products: Home, Renters, Landlord, Travel, Car, Income Protection, Life, Critical Illness, and 50+ Life Cover. Their website informs prospects that quotes are quick and easy, and you can apply online for instant insurance cover. You can also call them or request a call-back from a customer service representative. You can enter a preferred call-back time, but the site doesn't clarify how long it will take for them to call you. There's also the option to speak to someone in person at any ANZ branch.

Covers and Policies

Income Protection was the first thing that attracted me, as it's not a very common cover. Eligibility is simple. You must:

  • Be between 18 and 59 years old
  • Currently work at least 20 hours per week
  • Have worked for at least 12 of the past 24 months
  • Be a resident of Australia or NZ

If you meet the criteria, you can have peace of mind for yourself and/or your family. If you become temporarily unable to work, you will collect your chosen benefit amount to help make ends meet.

Similarly, you'll find Credit Card Insurance and Loan Protection to protect you if you can't make your payments.

The Homeowners Cover includes:

  • Full buildings replacement, including cover for architects, surveyors and legal fees.
  • Alternative temporary accommodation costs
  • 'New for old' contents replacement - no matter how old your belongings
  • Electrical motor burnout (TVs, fridges) and power surge
  • A $3,000 per item limit on unspecified valuables

You can pay monthly at no extra cost, and earn a discount if you have multiple policies with ANZ. You can file claims online or by phone, and contents are covered for up to 120 consecutive days if you're overseas. If you're over 50, you're eligible for a 10% discount and additional benefits.
